Radiation/Oncology

Sometimes called “seed implantation,” brachytherapy is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure used in the treatment of cancer.   As one of the first Bay Area surgery centers to perform brachytherapy, Fremont Surgery Center has been performing prostate brachytherapy for over 13 years.   Radioactive “seeds” are carefully placed inside of the cancerous tissue (prostate) and positioned in a manner that will attack the cancer most efficiently.  Prostate brachytherapy has the same cure rates as conventional surgical removal of the prostate, but with low risk of the adverse side effects associated with conventional surgical removal (radical prostatectomy).
