The Fremont Surgery Center
Advantage
Fremont Surgery Center is an ambulatory surgery center, which
means we are an independent facility where surgeries that do not
require hospital admission are performed. The advantages of an
ambulatory surgery center include size, service, quality and cost.
Ambulatory surgery centers are smaller and more service-oriented
than traditional hospitals and offer a high-quality, cost-effective
option for many patients needing to undergo a surgical procedure
normally associated with hospitals.
Patient satisfaction is a hallmark of the ambulatory surgery
center industry. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Office of the Inspector General surveyed Medicare beneficiaries who
had one of four procedures in an ambulatory surgery center.
Ninety-eight percent of the people surveyed were satisfied with
their experience.
One reason for high patient satisfaction is convenient
scheduling. According to an Outcomes Monitoring Survey of the
Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association, 75 percent of ambulatory
surgery centers started more than 80 percent of their cases on time.
Patients also choose ambulatory surgery centers for their high level
of professionalism and safety. FASA's survey shows that more than
half of ambulatory surgery centers had fewer than three
complications per 100,000 encounters and that more than 95 percent
of their medical staff is board-certified.
Another reason patients like ambulatory surgery centers is value.
In a study conducted by Blue Cross Blue Shield revealed, results
revealed that, on average, procedures performed at ASCs cost 47
percent less than those same procedures performed on hospital
inpatients. Furthermore, the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services Office of the Inspector General said, "We agree that ASCs
can significantly reduce costs for Federal health care programs,
while simultaneously benefiting patients." In fact, every study ever
done has shown that the quality of care delivered in ASCs is equal
to or better than comparable hospital care.
When you consider all the advantages, it's clear that having a
surgical or other procedure at an ambulatory surgery center is a
practical and pleasant alternative to surgery at a hospital.
Remember, you do have a choice when it comes to your surgery.
